Okay. I went to Barnes and Noble today and went straight to the art section. The type of book I am looking for it a book that is very detailed and goes step by step on how to draw the human anatomy. I don't want to draw realistic. I want to draw cartoon-like or anime-like.

Does anyone have any recommendations or books that have helped them out a lot?

I really want to get back into drawing.

the "how to draw manga" Series is pretty reliable i guess, but even realistic drawing books are useful in understanding human anatomy

Knowing how to draw realistically can help you draw cartoons/anime/manga better. I thumbed through one book in the B&N manga section and found a girl in there who would have to be dead in order for her spine to twist her around to have her chest and buttocks exposed to the viewer at the same time.

Just browse the human anatomy books. You don't have to point out where the adductor longus or the brachialis muscles are, but knowing the limitations of the human body helps.

Take a look at the things you like and the style you tend to gravitate towards and try to work off of it. You'll find you'll develop your own style in time.

I don't know what to recommend for cartooning or something in the anime genre, but I know the books by Scott McCloud are pretty insightful on comics and cartoons.

Someone else already got it, but the " How to Draw Manga " series all the basic building blocks for drawing just about anything you can think of. The version I picked up a few years ago was very extensive. It covered drawing different body types, the differences between male and female figure, posture, action scenes, backgrounds, elements, and composition when drawing scenes.

I forgot which edition I got personally. I'll see if I can find it in the morning.

Thanks Kattie. That would be awesome. I looked at the " How to Draw Manga " books but nothing was kind of what I was looking for. Maybe the one that you have/saw is one that they did not have.
